Topic > What Makes an Exceptional Teacher - 1354

Exceptional Teacher I've never had a teacher I felt comfortable with. Moving from one school to another was difficult and every time I got close to someone, I ended up changing schools. I never knew what it was like to have a teacher who cared so much about a student. Everything changed when I moved to Delafield, Wisconsin in 2007. I opened a new school in the fourth quarter and everything looked the same. Suddenly, when seventh grade rolled around, I felt like a completely new person. This is the year I met the teacher who became a part of my life. Mrs. Wroblewski has positively inspired me to follow my dreams and be who I want to be. Mrs. Wroblewski is an inspiration to me and a role model because she stood up for me when I was bullied, she gave me great opportunities, she is a great listener and she is always there for me no matter what. I was bullied my whole life, I just got it from the kids, I clearly had no backbone. For every school I attended, I was always the easy target. I let kids tease me, talk behind my back, and insult me. It didn't seem to matter if I told my parents or anyone at school, it didn't change anything. I never felt like I could tell someone and have things be different. Because of all the teasing, I often got distracted and lost focus on my tasks. It got worse every year to the point where half the time I spent in my own little world just to escape the teasing. Being a student in Mrs. Wroblewski's classroom always made me feel safe. Whenever something bothered me, I knew I could talk to her to work things out. I knew if I told him, he would actually do something about it. I still remember when I was sick on the second day of seventh grade and when I came back the next day there was... half the paper... I told her though, at that moment I didn't do it. I remember ever telling her that I scoliosis. Another example was, I told her, “I really miss seventh grade.” His response was, “I thought it had been a tough year for you with bad kids?” I was so shocked that after two or three years he still remembered it. With her love of teaching and care for her students, Mrs. Wroblewski truly wants everyone to succeed. He will take time out of his busy life to help students understand the material being taught and will help until the student feels comfortable. She took time out of her personal life for me to visit her at the middle school. She even came to visit me in Whitewater a day before school started. She truly is the best teacher in the world and I am so grateful to have been placed in her seventh grade math class six years ago.
