This is clearly demonstrated in the case of Brooks Douglass. Brooks Douglass is a senator from Oklahoma who had to face the reality of murder and rape, two of the most heinous crimes. When she was a teenager, “two men broke into her house, took her family hostage, raped her sister, and killed her parents before her eyes” (CNN). When he finally became an Oklahoma state senator, he wrote legislation that gave him the right to see one of these men, Steven Hatch, die.
