Delirium and Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver are two fantastic books that are part of a series. Delirium is the story of Lena Haloway who lives in a dystopian society where love is forbidden. It is the deadliest of all things in their world. At first Lena is a good girl who follows all the rules, is afraid of love and believes everything she has been told about love. All until he meets Alex. Once she meets Alex, everything changes. In Pandemonium Lena lived in the wilderness and went through so many hardships that it roughened her soul like summer roughens your feet. She now lives in New York City and has returned from the wilderness. Lena is such a different person now and if you've read Delirium the differences are easy to see. She herself says on page 3 of Pandemonium: "But old Lena is dead too. I buried her. I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flames." In this quote Lena is referring to her old self that she left in Portland and her old self that she left in the wilderness. Lena has had to let go of herself so much that she no longer knows who she is...
