Nothing is eternal. Love, power and even hate are transitory. People's feelings, when people die, disappear. However, in “Ozymandias” by Percy Bysshe Shelly and “My Last Duchess” by Robert Browning, the art is eternal. Even through the loss of his reputation and his wife (whether by accident or intention) the work of art survived. No matter how powerful or strong a thing or person is, when it comes to this world, it is not important because it is doomed to fade away. All tyrants who have ever existed or will exist will disappear. “Behold my works, ye mighty, and despair” is ironic because he thought his power would last forever; but all that remains of him is the wreckage of the statue.
