Topic > Should very young students be exposed to the Internet?

Under the topic of whether very young students should be exposed to the Internet we must first distinguish exactly who we are talking about. So, for the sake of now, when we say very young students, we say yes, but with adult supervision and/or locks present. I'm not saying we don't trust our students, no, absolutely. There are many different things that the Internet has to offer that, as an educator, I believe some young students are not yet ready to receive. As we know, the 21st century is a century full of new and more advanced technologies being introduced into our homes and classrooms. Which for some may be a good thing and for others may not be so good. Nowadays, limiting a child's Internet usage at a young age could slow down the child's learning process when it comes to technology. It is the responsibility of parents to keep track of what their children do on the Internet while in their care. The Internet is used as early as kindergarten, so children should have some exposure, but it should be limited. In elementary schools there are several computers in the classroom and throughout the school. There are many online educational activities that involve learning, so we cannot keep them completely away from the Internet. Many things can be learned, invented and improved through the Internet and who are we to say that young children can't imagine and invent some things at their age? So, once again, younger students should have access to the Internet but with parental supervision and/or blocks placed on age-inappropriate websites. It is very important that children do not spend an excessive amount of time on the Internet, this would cause... middle of paper... rush. Preventing a child from using the Internet can slow them down compared to a child who was introduced to the Internet at an early age. The Internet may provide negative things, but the benefits are more beneficial than the negative things. Through our research we see that we can hold back the internet and say it was all bad for a variety of reasons. So the good outweighs the bad in this situation.Works CitedThe Effective Use of Computers with Young Children." Welcome to Investigations.Clements, D.H. (1999).
