Ever since I was little, I have always marveled at the glamor of Hollywood. Perhaps I developed this passion for extravagance because the media portrayed glamor as intangibly wonderful. Being now a young adult, I have not yet fully emerged from this phase of attraction to luxury. I went from playing with Barbie dolls to watching reality shows where women were practically dolls. Television in general has had a great influence on society and our growing admiration for luxury. When I was given the opportunity to further expand my knowledge on any bridge of my choice, it was obvious to me which one would be the most fascinating to study; obviously I chose the most glamorous bridge. I remember watching Full House, the television sitcom, as a child, and I remember that the opening of the show was a recording of a beautifully crafted masterpiece by man, the most fascinating bridge of all. The bridge was a warm red-orange color and hovered over the waters that swam just two hundred and fifty feet below. It was the epitome of Hollywood glamour, and that's why I chose to study the Golden Gate Bridge. The idea of opening a bridge across the Golden Gate Strait had long been dreamed of by San Francisco residents since the 1830s. The purpose of building the bridge across the Golden Gate Strait would be to connect the sparsely populated southern city known at the time as San Francisco with the advanced and more densely populated northern city known as Marin County. The small towns were separated from the prestigious city by the Golden Gate Sea and so transportation to and from the city would have been a hassle without the aid of some type of vehicle passage. The main purpose of the Golden Gate Bridge investment was to recreate...... middle of paper......s workers by adapting hard hats for use by construction workers on the bridge. These hats were made with steamed canvas, glue and black paint. More importantly, these helmets became the beginning of the safety revolution for construction workers.
