Topic > Personal Narrative Essay: My Mother's Journey to America

When my mother came to Paterson, she hated it and thought it was so bad and even cried about going back to Mexico. After six months, my mother was able to return to Mexico to get her green card, which proved that she was a legal U.S. citizen. My mother's main priority was to make sure I went to school and got an education. He was able to attend Kennedy High School but hated it because he only spoke Spanish and couldn't understand anything. The only thing he really excelled at was mathematics, which he truly loved. He was able to receive lessons in Spanish while he got used to English. For my mother, learning English was the hardest thing she ever had to do and it was very stressful for her to learn English in high school. When my mother arrived in America she dreamed of having a better life, becoming a teacher, being able to study, reuniting with her parents but she realized that she couldn't make that dream come true.
