Topic > Use of Information Technology within Organizations

INTRODUCTIONThis overview illustrates the use of information technology (IT) that team members have observed within the various organizations in which they work. We will first describe the hardware, software, databases, and networks observed by team members. Then, we will recommend improvements to existing systems. We will also evaluate how the changing business environment influenced the decisions team members' organizations made in using information technology. Finally. we will compare the various technological capabilities of organizations. The following table summarizes the hardware, software, databases, networks and platforms that we have observed.Company Hardware Software Database Platform NetworksUnileverSVBOptical ViewAgilent PC MS Word Windows XP Oracle Internet/IntranetServer Java MS AccessSAP Storage DevicesThe hardware is the physical component of a computer, which includes digital circuitry. Hardware does not change, it is often usually a stable device unlike software and data which can be modified to meet the needs of end users. Firmware, a type of software that rarely if ever needs to be changed, is stored in hardware, this item is read-only memory or (ROM), because it is rarely changed, it is fixed rather than soft. The computer hardware is not seen by the end user. It is implanted in systems such as automobiles, microwave ovens, compact disc players, and other machines and devices. The classic personal computer has a case or chassis, is in the shape of a desktop or tower and includes these parts: Motherboard with space for upgrade cards and these additional parts: Central Processing Unit (CPU), Random Access Memory (Ram) for short-term data storage and program execution, Basic input/output system (BIOS), Bus: PCI bus, PCI-E or ACP bus, USB, CD, DVD, Floppy disk, internal memory , this is just a hint some of the features, obviously there are many other parts that make up the hardware. The software part of the computer structure includes the encoded information or instructions of the computer as opposed to the hardware used to store and process the information. Platform software includes the basic input-output system or firmware, a graphical user interface that allows the user to interact with the computer and its peripherals. The platform software comes with your computer. Application software is what people think of when they think of software, examples are office suites, video games.
