The current generation of children is completely different from previous ones. They live in the digital age. “Technology has integrated with daily activity to become a lifestyle and today children take for granted that everything is automated. It is difficult for kids today to imagine a world that existed without all the gadgets, electronics and seamless operations that computer technology provides.” (3) “Children in the United States spend approximately 40 hours a week watching television, video games, and the Internet.” (12) Many psychologists and researchers are concerned about the impact technology has on children. Children, future parents and leaders of tomorrow, are consumed by the negative effects technology has had on their development (3). The use of modern technology harms children by weakening social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. (paragraph) Technology affects children's social development in many different ways. Children are acquiring electronic games, personal computers and cell phones at younger and younger ages. “Surveys indicate that approximately 82% of children are online by seventh grade and experience approximately 6.5 hours per day of media exposure. Most children communicate more through electronic devices and spend less time face-to-face with family and peers. Text messages and emails provide limited or no access to others' emotions and the rich language of nonverbal communication that is lost in real-time interactions. The quality of family time is compromised if children use technology. The family would not be able to talk much during dinner time due to distractions such as watching television, listening to music, checking email, answering the phone, and sending text messages (7).(paragraph.... .. half of the paper .....aine. The problem is that the release means there is less dopamine available when the child needs to do other less enjoyable tasks, like homework , but your brain thinks they're cocaine. 13)(paragraph)“Children once lived a more carefree life than those growing up in today's automated world. Constant access to news feeds showcases a myriad of bad and unfortunate events happening around the world, and as a result, it seems that parental fear has increased."(3) News is circulating everywhere on the Internet and on television terrible that could scare children for their safety. They will no longer be able to trust the world and have a more cynical view of the world as a whole (paragraph) Most people do not think about how technology affects physical development and well-being of a child.
