Many students go to college undecided, having no idea what they want to do and wasting time and money. Undecided college-going students spend an average of “$9,139 per year on tuition alone” at an in-state public four-year university (Uebel). This describes students attempting to attend school not because they have an idea of their intended career, but shows what students are expected to do. These students spend money on tuition, perhaps not needed for their future careers. Students should have the opportunity to look into various majors. This will help students take classes that match their future careers. Students not only waste money, but also waste time. Students who are only taking core classes may research and explore multiple specializations, but instead they are focusing on classes that may not be necessary. Students who are informed about their future careers are more likely to not waste time. They know the classes they need to attend and focus only on that particular class, which is why it is “important to be prepared” (Morgan).
