The organization's founders, Frank Shankwitz and Scott Stahl, had originally set out to start what is now one of America's largest nonprofit organizations. They were simply trying to fulfill the wish of their closest friends' dying son, Chris. Chris, who was 7 years old, had been diagnosed with leukemia and had always wanted to be a police officer. Frank Shankwitz and Scott Stahl raised the funds and support they needed to give Chris a day he would never forget. Chris spent his day as a police officer. He received a custom police uniform, a badge, that once belonged to a retired lieutenant and became Arizona's first and only honorary DPS officer.
