Dimmesdale does not find peace until the end of the novel, when he finally admits to the town that he is the culprit as well as being Pearl's father. He finally came out into the light with Hester and found peace in death. The white in the center of the drawing represents peace and acceptance for both Hester and Dimmesdale. I found the duality of light and dark throughout the novel fascinating. While Hester lived in the light and found acceptance and happiness in her life, Dimmesdale lived the exact opposite. He lived in the shadows and withered in guilt. He found peace only through death. I enjoyed the creative project because I was able to analyze the passages that refer to light and darkness and interpret them as I imagined them.
