Topic > A Research and Self-Reflection on Peanut Butter

Self-Reflection SummaryThe reason I chose this particular area of research is that peanut butter is an extremely popular food choice around the world as it is convenient and nutritious ; and I also like to eat it. However, the number of brands and choices within the brand range make it challenging for me and the consumer to choose the most nutritious option. Before this research I didn't understand the nutritional content of the food I ate. On each food product there is a nutritional information table that indicates the exact health content of the food. There is also an ingredient list that provides consumers with details about the food. Nowadays, consumers are inundated with choices of seemingly similar products. I don't know the nutritional difference between these products. Food labeling is often misleading and deceptive, and I feel like I've been left in the dark, but also that there is a hidden dark side that can exist as consumer ignorance can lead to naive and poor choices. Process of completing my research task taught me many valuable lessons. In compiling the literature review I learned how to filter information and how to use citations. The Method and Results section showed me how to transfer the information from the labels into appropriate graphs and tables, to be able to make comparisons and analyses. I learned to critically examine graphs and tables and draw accurate and informed conclusions when completing the discussion section. Through this project, I also understood the importance of reflecting on any limitations encountered to learn from one's mistakes and find improvements for further research. Additionally, I learned how to properly reference sources. These skills… middle of paper… If you need to do more research, I recommend exploring and comparing other types of peanut butter. You could investigate organic peanut butter, creamy peanut butter, sugar-free peanut butter, sodium-free peanut butter, and natural peanut butter. Additionally, other types of nut and seed butters can be investigated. For example: almond butter, cashew butter, hazelnut butter, sesame butter and sunflower butter. Additionally, you can search for different brands of peanut butter. For example: Black Cat, Skippy, Woolworths, unbranded Pick 'n Pay and Reese's Peanut Butter. Another limitation was that only peanut butter labels were compared in detail and that consumer preferences were not explored. This research could be improved by including surveys that examine peanut butter preferences among people of different ages and genders and the reasons for their choice.
