“I Have A Dream!” These are the words spoken from the heart of Martin Luther King; these are words that may have defined a generation. The decade of the 1960s was characterized by many problems and difficulties, as many tried to overcome the oppression of the modern world. Men like Martin helped unite the country. But people didn't define the twentieth century. It was the era of great politicians, the boom in technology and the explosion of culture. John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He was the 35th president of the United States of America. His short tenure lasted two years, from 1961 to 1963. But what that man accomplished is simply incredible. Kennedy created the Peace Corps, an association where volunteers came to educate Americans about the way of life of other nations. Kennedy also declared that he would end the racial discrimination that led to the civil rights movement. Kennedy changed America forever in two short years. Kennedy declared that we would have a man on the Moon and, in his own words, “And that will happen by the end of this decade.” (Goodwin and Bradley) And so it was. But his presidency was unfortunately cut short on November 22, 1963 when he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. He was assassinated while campaigning in Dallas, Texas for a second term (Goodwin and Bradley). Five days after his assassination, the Launch Operations Center responsible for the Apollo missions changed its name to the John F. Kennedy Space Center in his honor. (Dunbar) John F. Kennedy was the spark that ignited the civil rights movement which may have been one of his greatest achievements in his time. Civil rights became the largest movement of the 1960s. Civil rights became the forefront of the country's problems. S......middle of paper......loves to revolt and united a country to fight against his own people. There were riots everywhere complaining about the military draft, and you could find anyone who didn't support the way the United States was. Hippies were introduced to this new world order as a kind of new lifestyle. The 1960s changed the United States forever. (Goodwin and Bradley) The twentieth century was truly a century to be documented in world history books with all its works and wonders in politics, technology, and culture. He has brought many world leaders to their thrones and brought them to their knees. He invented a miracle show in the scientific universe and introduced us to the final frontier. He showed them that music should be an important part of their life and culture. And he showed everyone that they will be remembered. Because in these years of hope their dreams come true.
