He then said that it's just one thing and that there were other reasons why he felt today was better than 50 years ago. He goes on to tell me that technology has made life easier, more enjoyable, less stressful and has brought families closer by giving them more things to do together. I disagree with your statement regarding technology. In some ways we could say the technology is better, but in my opinion I would have to say that the 60s were even better for several reasons. I don't agree that technology brings families closer together. At least in the 1960s, families sat together for meals and discussed their daily activities. I also feel that since there was less technology, families were closer and couples stayed married much longer. In the 1960s, children exercised more, as they played outside and did not sit indoors watching TV, playing video games and surfing the net. That is why today there are many more overweight children. Another disadvantage of technology is that people are much lazier and don't know what hard work really is. When kids had to figure out how to do homework without the help of technology, they had to study harder to succeed. Now all kids have to do is go online and look for the answers. In the 60s everything was done with paper and pencil, today in school everything is done with the computer. Today's children are less educated than those of 50 years ago, they read less because of the computers that read to them. Spelling isn't even a subject they teach after third grade, if you know the basics all you have to do is type it in and do a spell check. Technology has corrupted our children as they see and hear about the negative things happening in the world and even scares some of them. They play video games that contain so much violence and these things tend to have a negative effect and some players reenact the games.
