IntroductionIt is fascinating to observe social interactions in a large space. More importantly, analyze how people interact based on social stratification, power, wealth, prestige, ascribed status and achieved status. This past weekend I visited Boston Common Park to purposely observe how people interact with each other. I was equipped with a notebook to write down some important observations in light of the aforementioned elements of social interaction. My interest was piqued by a wedding officiated at this venue with people from different backgrounds present at the venue. This event provided the perfect setting to identify various ethnographic phenomena.Observation and AnalysisBoston Common Park is a place where people come to visit and hold events. The number of people visiting this region is high and therefore offers a wide range of ethnographic phenomena worth exploring. My visit to Boston Common Park over the weekend was colorful. A considerable part of the park was decorated with dresses and flower sets as part of the wedding preparations. I was intrigued by the choice of the central location to host the event. Boston Common Park offers a rich mix of landmarks and artistic designs that make such an event appealing. I chose to focus on this wedding because it involved a rich set of social interactions. The marriage was between a black man (Gregory) marrying a white woman (Kathrynne). When I arrived, the wedding guests were starting to arrive in droves. I observed how they interacted with each other. I also took note of the estimated length of time spent interacting. More precisely, I was concerned about the form of interaction and freedom...... middle of paper ...... I received more wealth I received special treatment in the weekend event I chose to participate in, which is a clear indication of the disparities that exist in terms of wealth distribution at a national and global level. The level of interaction for those present was based on the perception of the individual's social status. People were more likely to interact freely with individuals of similar social status than with people of different social status. While some were given status, others presented a stratified status. However, the difference that emerges from this scenario is that a small number of individuals are given the opportunity to accumulate wealth in a short time, while the rest linger in their glory. In return, the cultural response to this difference is to elevate those who have accumulated wealth at the expense of those in the lower and middle class income brackets..
