Topic > Let's Give Justice: A New Immigration Law - 887

What if your loving family is torn apart? Illegal immigrants are those who have immigrated to the United States from another country without government consent. These people who have built a life and a family in America live in constant fear of being deported. They live in fear that one day they may be sent back to their homeland, leaving their loved ones behind. The issue has yet to be resolved due to the conflicting attitudes that public opinion and politicians have towards illegal immigrants. Current Immigration Law disadvantages Mexican immigrant families by deporting parents, forcing them to leave their children behind. To solve the problem we must establish a new immigration law that protects families by granting them amnesty. Early on, the law presented concerns that constantly required new reforms. During the 18th and early 19th centuries, Americans encouraged free and open immigration until the late 1800s, when the immigrant population increased and the economy was headed for decline. The reaction in America was to place the blame on illegal immigrants because they believed they were guilty. Americans were losing their jobs to Mexicans who didn't care about being paid less. They also struggled to find work because most employers would hire Mexicans. They were also targeted because Mexicans did not have to pay taxes but still used the resources offered by the government. At this point Congress began to establish new legislation regarding immigrants. It contained issues about who the United States would allow to receive citizenship. The law made it difficult for immigrants to get citizenship approved. They wanted to keep away idiots, crazy people, prisoners and people... in the middle of paper. More commonly, immigrants establish family roots, and often with American citizen children. Vinita Andrapalliyal discusses threats to immigrants' parental rights. “Child protection agency officials may be more willing to recommend that a court remove a child from his or her parents' custody or terminate parental rights because…they view some immigrant parenting traditions as undesirable and disadvantage parents who do not They speak English." (179) Immigrant parents with citizen children are considered unfit to care for a child because they could be deported at any time. The law makes the immoral action of separating a loving family justifiable because of the legal status of the parents. One way to solve the problem is to grant amnesty to those families who respect the law. Forgiveness will be given to good people who work hard for themselves and their families.
