Topic > Love and Sex in the Tale of Cupid and Psyche - 727

The concept of love and sex is difficult to consciously ascertain. "Sex is a function of love. Love is a function of sex, and lust is only a function of sex." Many researchers think that love is nothing more than a chemical impulse within the brain, much like the sexual impulse. If that were true, all these effusive feelings would be nothing more than child's play. Greek and Roman mythology are based on themes depicting human nature which can be true or fictitious; myths, in a sense, are the "highest reality". Most stories in myth have their roots in love and sex. It can be said that love between two people occurs due to erotic desire or actual love. Although sex and love seem inextricably linked, our brains distinguish between the two. Dr. Helen Fisher, an anthropologist, believes that the initial purpose of reproduction influenced the evolution of love. According to her, love consists of three functions. Sexual desire, the first function, is aimed at maintaining the mutual interest of the sexes for a sufficiently long period. Romantic love is loving one person at a time. It is the root of the family's beginnings. The third is attachment, or as we say, “true love.” True love guarantees the happiness of couples, gives offspring the best chance of survival. Greek and Roman mythology have stories that represent true love where sex is not important at all. The story of Cupid and Psyche describes the overcoming of obstacles to their love and their definitive union. Psyche was the most beautiful of the three daughters of an unnamed king. People admired her beauty which angered the goddess Venus. The god of love, Cupid, fell in love with her. Following the oracle of Apollo, Psyche met Cupid at night, in the dark and dark... middle of paper....... Although it seems strange, such cases also exist in today's world. The different dynamics of sex and love are an important topic in our art, music and literature. In the entertainment world it is often said that "selling sex". Sexually provocative tools are widely used to attract a viewer, reader or listener, although the promoted brand has a tenuous connection to such tools. In conclusion, I can say that constant arguments and conflicts about love without sex and sex without love will never have an end. The interpretation of love is not the same for everyone. As we have seen, sex and love are represented separately in mythology. Love-based stories without sexual content are intended to illustrate that "true love cannot be found where it does not exist, nor can it be denied where it does." Sex is part of nature and without love sex is meaningless.
