Topic > Canada's Great Government System - 2187

Introduction Since Canada's founding in 1867, Canada has been a stable country that exemplifies a great government system. The Confederation of the Fathers did a great job creating a federal system of government, institution and process guided and written by the Constitution, which could stand the test of time. No institution, process, or government is perfect and will always make its citizens happy, but many government institutions and processes have proven to be durable and stand the test of time. But there are processes and institutions that I would like to change, I would like to change the Senate and the process of nominating senators, and I would also like to add a nomination process with confirmation hearing to the nomination of a federal judge. Although governance in Canada has remained the same for the last 146 years, and is a stable form of government, institution and processes, I believe that, as in all things, there is a movement for improvement in some areas of the institution and processes. the fathers of confederation were forming this country and had to choose what style of government Canada would be. The 3 most common choices they could have chosen from are the unitary system, the confederate system, and the federal system. The unitary system, is where the central government has all the power and the lower government, the provinces would have no power. All laws must be created and implemented at a federal level, an example of this is the United Kingdom. The confederate system is one in which the lower level of government has more power than the federal government. An example of the Confederate system is that of the... medium of paper... free from government interference. For the most part I like the judicial branch and would not trade this location from being an appointment system. However, I would prefer that nominees go through a nomination process with a confirmation hearing similar to what nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court of the United States do. I think confirmation hearings are a way to allow scrutiny of the Supreme Court nominee and would help make the Supreme Court look more like an appointment of parliament and rather than an appointment of the Prime Minister. Conclusion Every government is complex and the government of Canada is no different. However, Canada has one of the most stable forms of government in the world. This stability is due to the federal system, the Canadian Constitution and the processes that are used every day.
